Daiduk Ocean Kayaks & Adventure is a kayak guide shop located in Hirao-cho, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Exploring the sea on a sea kayak or sabani boat in the Seto Inland Sea, surrounded by mountains and a captivating coastline, offers a sensation of being in a different world. Paddling on the tranquil sea creates a feeling of merging with nature, and the breathtaking views of small islands floating in the blue sea and the silhouettes of mountains against the clear air are beyond words. It’s a remarkable experience that allows you to feel the beauty of nature and achieve a sense of liberation for both your mind and body.
I was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1972. In 1992, I embarked on a cross-continental bicycle journey across the Americas, followed by solo descents of the Amazon River covering 4,000 km in 1994.
For three years, I worked in pearl farming in the Togian Islands, Indonesia, and had interactions with local maritime communities using a sea kayak. Since 1996, I have been repeatedly exploring Alaska, including a solo descent of the Yukon River spanning 3,000 km, a 1,500 km bicycle journey across the Arctic Circle, and solo descents of the Noatak and Kobuk Rivers in the Arctic Circle. I also completed a kayak circumnavigation of Kyushu covering 1,200 km and a kayak traverse of the Seto Inland Sea spanning 500 km from Otsushima Island in Yamaguchi Prefecture to Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. In 2003, I successfully completed a solo 1,700 km sea voyage along the coast of Alaska and the Bering Sea. I have been a continuous member of the Setouchi Island Sea Kayak Crossing Team. In 2014, I achieved the world’s first solo kayak crossing without assistance from Fukuoka to Busan, covering 250 km, as part of the Japan to Korea Expedition with American adventurer Michael Reed. I also engage in campaigns to address the issue of international marine debris.
In 2019, I served as the captain of the “30,000-Year-Old Voyage Recreation Project” at the National Museum of Nature and Science. Together with a crew of five, we successfully rowed 225 km from Taiwan to Yonaguni Island, approaching the roots of human migration to the Japanese archipelago.
Currently, I am the second captain of the Setouchi Island Sea Kayak Crossing Team.
